Being Your Authentic Self. Are you afraid of letting God down?
Is being God’s representative to the world holding you back from opening up and being yourself?
You are God’s representative to the world. That’s what Christians have learned. It’s what the bible tells us. People that do not know Christ can get to know Him through His followers. We are meant to show the love of God to people.
The idea is that God will use us to draw others near to Him. To feed the desire for them to invite Jesus into their lives.
I love this. It’s incredible to think that God uses us. That we can be some part in His kingdom. He actually wants us. I want that too.
Yet, do you not know how imperfect I am Lord? What if, while you are trying to use me to draw others near to you, they instead see my obvious brokenness, and I screw it up for you?
I don’t want to mess it up. What if I let God down? What if when people see how much of a mess I still am, and they will not want Jesus?
Now may the God of peace [the source of serenity and spiritual well-being] who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood that sealed and ratified the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with every good thing to carry out His will and strengthen you [making you complete and perfect as you ought to be], accomplishing in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
God does not call the equipped. He equips the called.
Ok. That’s reassuring, because I’m not equipped. However, does it help you move forward and step out? Does it allow you to make yourself vulnerable to others to be the hands and feet for Jesus? Do you go out and make disciples despite the fact that you still have so many things that you need work on yourself?
Think about that, honestly…
Sometimes, I find myself holding back. That’s not entirely true. Often times, I find myself holding back. Yes, my time is short. Yes, I have a lot on my plate already. I can give those excuses, and they are true. But what’s more true is, I’m afraid I’m going to let God down.
I’m a poor representative of just how good He is. Why? Because I still have a long way to go. What if people see that? They may be better off than I am, who am I to try to lead them to Jesus? Who am I to serve others, when I so often have to cry out to Him for help myself? Shouldn’t I, instead, be helping others? What if someone asks me a question about the bible or Jesus, and I don’t know the answer? I could screw up their whole salvation.
It all sounds crazy, yes. But…
These are the words that play in my head. These are the thoughts that can keep me from serving. This is the reason why I sometimes pause, instead of confidently giving the name of “Jesus” as an answer to a stranger.
Am I the only one who struggles with this?
I think…I’ll just wait. Why? So, someone better than me…more Christian than me…more mature than me…that has it more together than me…that knows more…a preacher or something should be the one that does God’s work.
Who do you think you are?
It’s not about you or me. It’s about GOD! He does the work.
Do we think that we could ruin God? I’m messed up God, and, if I step out there to serve you, I’ll just mess up your kingdom.
Oh my goodness, how the enemy fills our minds. We must see these thoughts for what they are. Lies from the enemy.
My weaknesses and imperfections can’t out weigh God.
There has only been one perfect person walk the Earth…Jesus.
Be Brave. Be Bold. Be Honest. Be Vulnerable.
Let’s share life with one another – one full of love and grace, not fear and perfection.
You have been chosen…with your story…your life…your circumstances…to make a difference for God and His Kingdom. To make a difference in the world. You and your unique life could make a connection with someone that others can not reach.
You are here for a reason and despite all the things that you may be able to do better…You are still God’s first pick.
You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed and placed and purposefully planted you, so that you would go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit will remain and be lasting, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name [as My representative], He may give to you.
Do you have trouble opening up and letting people see the messy insides of your life?
