Cultivate Your Life
I am currently doing a corporate fast with my church. It’s a 10 day Daniel Fast, and my first time doing a Christ-centered fast. I’ve fasted in the past for health reasons and did a lot of praying that I wouldn’t go crazy. But knowing that the sole focus on this fast is God is a big change. Also, the fact that you have lots of people in your church right there with you is pretty amazing. We are even teamed up with prayer partners, and I am lucky enough to be teamed up with 2 amazing women that I adore.
Our featured post this week is from Cheryl at Soul Refreshed Journey. She is talking about her word of the year – cultivate. I shared my word of the year earlier this week. If you missed it, check it out here. What caught me in Cheryl’s post was thinking about cultivating our life, removing the stones and barriers of busyness, clutter, unforgiveness, anger, or whatever you have hindering your growth. When we remove these things, the things God plants inside of us can grow beautifully and healthily.
Fasting – Cultivate Your Life
Part of my fast is fasting from social media and information. I’m only checking social media twice a day so I can respond to your comments and make sure I’m not leaving you hanging. I can’t disappear on you. 🙂 But I’m not scrolling through anything. I found too that I was on information overload. I love learning, reading, listening to podcasts, YouTube videos, watching instastories. My brain was feeling full and overwhelm was setting in.
So, I’m taking these 10 days without much social media or any new information coming in. I hope this will give me some breathing room to hear God, help me to focus on the right priorities – my husband and girls, and use my time better. I’m still reaching for my phone a lot. It’s such a habit to listen to a podcast while I’m cleaning, but I’m excited to see what God reveals to me in this process.
How can you cultivate your life to prepare yourself for God’s harvest? Allow Him to be your tiller.

Happy New Year!
A new year, a new focus!
My new word for 2018 is cultivate. I chose that word because it describes what I need to do in my life.
When a farmer cultivates, he prepares the land to grow crops, breaking up soil to grow his plants. His purpose in cultivating is to get rid of the weeds and to loosen the soil in order to have the optimal retention and penetration of water, nutrients and air.
I want similar things to happen in my life in 2018. I want to get the weeds of busyness and clutter out of my life. And I want to grow joy, develop greater passion for life, have a heart filled with more and more gratitude, and live a life of presence, mindful of what the Lord wants for me.
My first four posts of 2018 will focus on how I will cultivate these in my life. So let’s get right to cultivating joy.
I have been realizing more and more that I allow too many things to steal my joy. And, you know, that is exactly what Satan desires. He wants us to feel discouraged and despairing. And with all that is going on in this world, one can easily have their joy stolen. But even in daily life it can only take a word, a frustration, or a disappointment to steal joy, especially in me, when I allow myself to repeatedly mull over these things in my mind.
I want this year to be different I want to celebrate and find joy in the ordinary.
